100 Year Journey Awards Gala

Mind-blowing entertainment. Inspiring stories. Once in a lifetime connections. The 100 Year Journey Awards Gala is the premiere occasion in Western Canada for the South Asian community to gather in celebration of their ancestors, peers and prodigies.

100 Year Journey Awards Gala

Our sixth annual 100 Year Journey Gala will be held at the beautiful JW Marriott Parq Hotel in Vancouver on October 5th, 2019 and will be filled with entertainers, community members and business leaders for a night of unforgettable music, wine, food and entertainment by local and international talents. This black-tie awards night will showcase the accomplishments of past, present and future notable Indo Canadians. This regularly sold out event will be attended by five hundred business leaders, influencers and community members under one roof to give back and reflect upon, and honour the Indo Canadian community.

Net proceeds from the previous galas went toward establishing a $100,000 Endowment at Kwantlen Polytechnic University; contributions to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation; donation of several thousand 100 Year journey books to Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby, Abbotsford school districts; donation of books to the Next 100 Year Mentorship program (now in its 5th year).

Plus a partnership between Surrey RCMP Diversity Unit and the Surrey Safe Schools Department, a program that focuses on developing healthy relationships, positive recreation, overall wellness and identity through mentorship.

The 100 Year Journey Award — “The World”

The inspiration for this award was borne in the idea of journey — the new paths and groundbreaking work undertaken by our pioneers. In designing this piece, we set about exploring navigation themes ranging from the compass to astrolabes used by ancient travellers.

In our research, we became inspired by the “celestial globe” — devices for mapping and navigating distance places, some of which were most finely crafted in the 16th century of the Mughal Empire.

Our version of the celestial globe maps the constellations of the night sky, as seen from Canada. And, rather than covering the sphere in Persian and Arabic script, we inscribed the sphere in the languages of the first of our community who arrived in Canada. In English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, the globe reads “The strength of our community is the richness of our journey.”

And, this is what we now call “The World”.

Every award is unique, crafted by hand, with a unique mold to cast each piece. We have the honour of placing the world into the hands of a few remarkable individuals who we recognize at the Awards Gala, ever year.
